After months of preparation, I’m finally getting ready to launch the pending.to beta. The waiting list is growing, and people have started emailing me asking how to get set up. I’m excited, and a little impatient to get it into their hands.
If you haven’t seen it yet, Pending is an app for keeping track of online orders. It connects to Gmail, finds order confirmations and shipping updates, and brings them together so you can see what you’ve ordered, what’s on the way, and what needs attention. The idea is to save you from searching your inbox every time you wonder where something is.
With the beta getting closer, I wanted a board for the remaining work. I was about to open Trello when I thought it might be useful to put a small board inside Pending’s admin area instead. I’m already there managing beta invitations, so having the tasks there too made sense.
That was the justification, anyway. Building it also sounded more interesting than sitting down and deciding which things actually needed to be finished before launch.
So I built it: To do, In progress, QA, Deployed. Nothing particularly ambitious, just tickets I can add and move across. When I finished, I had a working board with absolutely nothing on it. I’d done the part I wanted to do and still had the original job waiting for me.
The emails asking how to get started are probably what I needed. I’ve spent months preparing this, and now people are waiting to use it while I’m still finding things to build. Some of those things matter. I’m less sure about the board. I want to get the beta out and hear from someone who hasn’t spent months staring at it.
Anyway, I have a board now. Time to put the remaining beta work on it and figure out what really needs to happen before I send the invitations. If you’ve already joined the waitlist, thanks for being patient. I’m looking forward to finally showing you what I’ve been working on.
